Intro Post.
Welcome to les_sanspapiers, LiveJournal's most active Notre-Dame de Paris community!

In this community, we welcome and encourage discussion regarding anything related to Notre-Dame de Paris: the original novel by Victor Hugo, the various musical and cinematic adaptations, ballets and other works of performance art, information and special interest posts regarding the actors/actresses and other persons of interest in the Notre-Dame realm of influence, and many more. Fan art, fan fiction, graphics, fan videos, et cetera, are also welcome. This community isn't meant to be stagnant, so please - jump right in! :D

Though not necessary, we'd really love if you could fill out a questionnaire to introduce yourself to the community. A few questions you could answer include:

01. Basic Information (Name, Age, Location (can be country or even continent))
02. How did you come across Notre-Dame de Paris?
03. How did you come across this community?
04. Favourite adaptation?
05. Favourite character? Least favourite character?
06. Other fandoms?
07. Anything you think we could do to improve upon or add to this community?
08. Any other items of interest?

Again, welcome, and have fun! ♥

Sorry for this very silly question, but should we who filled it out before do it again? *blushes*

And anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for doing such a great job! I love this community very much, it's a great opportunity for me to improve my English! :D

Thank you again!

It's not a silly question at all! ♥

If you filled it out before, you certainly don't have to; we used to have an Intro Post, but it was impossible for newcomers to find, and while looking through the past entries yesterday I couldn't find it at all! I figured it would be best to make a new one dated for 2030 so that it was the very first post a newcomer would see, as our profile page has been saying XD

And thank you! :>

01. Basic Information (Name, Age, Location (can be country or even continent)

Doc M, aka Marianne, 44, Scotland

02. How did you come across Notre-Dame de Paris?

I'd seen the 1976 BBC adaptation and the 1956 film on TV by the time I picked up the novel on a station bookstall in 1981 or thereabouts, when I was 16. I was getting into the poetry of François Villon at the time, so it fitted in well. It helped that there was a good-looking young priest on the cover. ;-D

03. How did you come across this community?

I've been on LJ for a few years, and having rekindled my interest in NDdP earlier in 2009, decided to see what groups were around.

04. Favourite adaptation?

The ballet (which shows you can pare the story to its bones but retain its essence), the musical, the 1956 film and the 1976 BBC adaptation. I loathe the censorship-gutted Hollywood versions.

05. Favourite character? Least favourite character?

Favourite: Claude, followed by Pierre and Djali. I fell completely in love with Claude from the first. As the passionately scholarly type myself, he represented all I wanted to be (minus the hang-ups) and all I loved. I wanted to rescue him from a screwed-up, life-denying religion and from throwing himself away on a shallow bimbo who could never have shared the life of his mind.
And Pierre – he's sweet and funny and endearing, and chooses to escape with the brains of the act. I could imagine having wonderful, wide-ranging conversations with Pierre and Claude (and Djali on hand to be cute, cuddly and amusing): the sort you have with friends at university that start after dinner and go on until you suddenly realise you can hear the dawn chorus.

Least favourite: Esméralda – her ignorance/innocence and gullibility are simply not believable, given her upbringing by thieves and cut-throats, unless she's genuinely mentally retarded; Phœbus – meant to be shallow and annoying, and succeeds; Quasimodo, less for any fault of his than the fact he has come to dominate popular (mis)representations of the book, when he's not really very interesting as a person. I couldn't imagine exchanging more than a "hello!" with any of these three, less still having a real conversation.

06. Other fandoms?

12C Monferrato and Outremer; Occitan troubadour culture; mediæval Latin verse; mediæval history in general; 18C Scottish military history and American Loyalism; Anthony Hope's Ruritania; 19C left-wing history; flamenco; Gothic/vampire fiction (not bloody Twilight); LGBT issues; secularism; comparative mythologies; cinema; & c & c & c.

07. Anything you think we could do to improve upon or add to this community?

I love it as it is!

08. Any other items of interest?

Not offhand. Just to say I'm a middle-aged New Romantic/Goth-y type/impoverished BoBo, historian and writer, frequently to be found in cafés and secondhand bookshops in the West End of Glasgow.

You could make this community members only, and this entry public, thus this being the first entry seen.

I've already done this, but I think we should have tags. If you want I can make up a list of tags, and either you or your sister could create them. Only mods can.

The only problem is that I'm still trying to figure out how to do so ;A;

I do like the tags idea! :>

01. Basic Information (Name, Age, Location (can be country or even continent))
Name: twolionss most of the time:) I also lurk around deviantart as greenadder1.
Age: older than Esme, younger than Claude.
Location: Athens, Greece

02. How did you come across Notre-Dame de Paris?
Read an abridged version for kids borrowed from the school library, asked my dad to buy me the book, he got me the unabridged, adult, red-blooded real thing instead. That was it, I was ruined for life!

03. How did you come across this community?
I really don’t remember; I think by googling “Claude Frollo”.

04. Favourite adaptation?
Every adaptation has its merits and its faults. As to liking one best, I go through phases; like, right now it’s the 1996 ballet. A month ago it was nothing but the 1956 French film. Before that it was a battle between Alexander Marakulin and Igor Balalayev. God only knows what will be next.

05. Favourite character? Least favourite character?
Favourite character: Dom Claude Frollo, Monsieur the Archdeacon of Josas; second acolyte to the Bishop; having the charge of the two deaneries of Montlhéry and Châteaufort, and of a hundred and seventy-four rural clergy.
Least favourite character: Doctor Jacques Coictier. Despicable little man.

06. Other fandoms?
No, not really. Not right now anyway.

07. Anything you think we could do to improve upon or add to this community?
No, this community is a very interesting place to visit for anyone interested in Notre Dame de Paris – I only wish the site design was more convenient. It’s a bit difficult trying to access older posts and comments.

08. Any other items of interest?
I want to see/hear/read every NDdP adaptation there is! In any language!

Welcome!

As a moderator, I'm still learning the ins and outs of running a community, so please do forgive me for the rather shoddy design. brooke suggested making tags, so hopefully we should have that up soon to help finding older entries much easier.

02. How did you come across Notre-Dame de Paris?
Read the novel @ the age of 13, then saw the 1998 musical on video in 2010

03. How did you come across this community?
was browsing LJ

04. Favourite adaptation?
Victor Hugo's novel, 1998 musical

05. Favourite character? Least favourite character?
All favourite, except Phoebus. Yes Frollo is evil, but he is such a complex, fascinating character. Phoebus is a charismatic bad boy, but he is not a reformed bad boy that girls usually like, he is just a selfish bastard, in my opinion. I don't see any redeeming qualities in him at all (no offense to his fans)

06. Other fandoms?
Phantom of The Opera, Strictly Ballroom, musicals in general.

07. Anything you think we could do to improve upon or add to this community?
No

08. Any other items of interest?
